Google+ for Android update now rolling out - UI changes and bug fixes aplenty

Google+ is getting some love tonight. The latest version has just been pushed to the Android Market and should be showing up for most folks. If not, you'll just have to sit tight for a little while longer. This release -- created during the Ice Cream Sandwich developement brings a few changes to the table.

Most notably the UI and styling of the app is more in tune with how Android 4.0 looks and for those who loaded up the previously leaked version -- it will look familiar but others changes can be found within as well such as:

Battery life improvements
Navigation and performance improvements
Significant notifications improvements
Brand new posting UI
Several bug fixes
Support for Google Apps users
Ability to sign out
Add people to a circle from circle profiles

All in all, a nice update that will hopefully correct a lot of concerns some have had. You can fire up the Android Market or grab it from the link below, where you'll also find some more screenshots

AmtrakConnect free WiFi added to 12 East Coast routes, snack car will still cost ya

Remember when we noted the existence of AmtrakConnect WiFi on the Adirondack train (number 69) about two weeks ago? Although it wasn't official at the time, it is now -- and it turns out that was just a sliver of what to expect. Amtrak recently announced that the free service is currently available on twelve of its East Coast routes, which should please many a railway commuter accustomed to WiFi deprivation. Eight of those routes (Northeast Regional, Keystone and Empire services, Carolinian, Downeaster, Ethan Allen Express, New Haven - Springfield Shuttle and Vermonter) feature full wireless connectivity from head to caboose, while the others (Adirondack, Maple Leaf, Palmetto and Pennsylvanian) have designated cars that allow for internet access. Factor in its Acela and Northwest Regional lines, and Amtrak says 60 percent of its fleet is now WiFi-capable with more additions due in California before the year's out. Better yet, "4G speeds" are also in the cards for the future, but we won't hold our breath waiting for an equally swift rollout. Full press release after the break.

SICK LIST: Kelly Rowland RECOVERING In L.A. + Rihanna RECOVERING From Her IV Drip In Sweden

Two of the hardest working chicks in the biz were both grounded over the past few days with illnesses. No Halloween fun for them. Get updates on Rihanna's struggle with the flu and Kelly Rowland's mystery illness inside....

Last week, Kelly Rowland raised eyebrows after she left Europe in a haste and boarded a plane bound for L.A. following a big fight with fellow "X Factor: UK" judge Tulisa Contostavlos. The problem was though, the folks at "X Factor" didn't know she'd left the country.

The -ish hit the fan when Kelly reported that she couldn't return for tapings because she had come down with a very "rare" viral throat infection.

She told the Sun,

'I'm so sick - I have no idea what is wrong with me, but I have the worst sore throat. It got so bad that I stopped eating and drinking and got so dehydrated the doctor put me on a drip. 'Even now I can't swallow anything - not even my own saliva. The doctors don't even really know what's wrong, either. They say whatever I have is extremely rare.'

Last night, a source close to the show told People Magazine UK,

'Kelly has been told it’s time to make her mind up. Everyone is supportive of the fact she is ill but other bosses are annoyed at the situation. She doesn’t want to quit. She is adamant that she isn’t worried about the row she had with Tulisa and wants to return but she has to give the producers her word – and fast.'

And despite looking decent in L.A. yesterday in this green track suit, Kelly says she is STILL waiting on the "OK" from her doctor to fly back to the UK.

And I hope she gets it soon because the head man in charge, Simon Cowell, has given her a 48-hour ultimatum to confirm if she plans to fulfill her "X Factor" duties.

Time will tell....

Rihanna was forced to cancel a show for her Swedish fans after contracting the flu.

She recently tweeted a photo from the hospital after being put in an IV drip,

'Sorry, Malmo!'

'I am sorry to everyone who was coming out to my show in Malmo Sweden. I was so excited to perform for you all. It would have been a great time…so much better than being sick with the flu, ugh! I'm really disappointed I couldn't be there.'

Reps for Live Nation have not confirmed if Rih Rih will be able to make her other scheduled tour dates this week.

HTML5 MP3 player lets you listen to your music library inside your browser

While this slick little HTML5 audio player might not pack all of the features of your favorite desktop media application, it's still a very cool demonstration of what a Web app can do with access to local resources -- like MP3 and OGG files.

Just fire up http://antimatter15.github.com/player/player.html in your HTML5-compatible browser and browse to the topmost folder in your music library. The app will quickly build an index of all your tunes and let you start listening right inside your Web browser. Click on the filter library text, and you can enter a search string -- results load as you type.

There's a volume control, shuffle mode, play/pause control, and you can click and drag to skip forward or rewind during playback. As OMG! Ubuntu points out, you can even save the app to your hard drive and run it offline, which is pretty darn cool.

Not all browsers are equal when it comes to HTML5 implementation, of course. We found that Chrome worked the best, and Firefox was OK. It's also worth noting that this music player comes from the same developer that created one of our favorite restartless Firefox 4 add-ons, drag2up.

Dodge is a space-shooter in which you have no weapons

Space-shooters are usually a fairly fiery affair, with many types of guns, weapon upgrades, power-ups and more. Dodge does away with all of that, while keeping the very essence of a space shooter: Dark background, fast action, and stuff blowing up all over the place.

Your vector-looking spacecraft is the fastest thing on the screen, most of the time. And as the header implies, you have absolutely no weapons; you can't get any, either. All you have is agility and maneuverability.

Your opponents shoot heat-seeking missiles at you; the missiles lock on and start tracking you. The trick is to dodge the missiles while putting them in the path of one of your enemies, thus letting them have a taste of their own medicine.

There are three types of enemies, at least in the first few levels: "simple" spaceships which fire slow projectiles, "tanks" which seem to be more serious and take more hits to destroy, and "circles." The circles simply explode, spewing twenty or thirty very fast projectiles. This sounds dangerous, but is actually great once you learn to use them; they are very destructive for tanks, and can even blow up other circles.

The soundtrack is very techno, but it meshes very well with this type of game. Intense fun!

ASUS says Transformer Prime will arrive on Honeycomb, ICS coming later

Well, we already knew the original Transformer would be getting an Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade sometime in the near future, and now ASUS Germany has confirmed that the quad-cored Prime and the Eee Pad Slider will also get a taste of Android's latest OS. No semblance of a datum for release just yet, but the triumvirate of Transformers will join the upgrade queue behind ASUS' other Android offering, the Padfone.
